Day 88 - 36 States now, 2 to go.

We dropped Lori and Brent off at Memphis International at 6:45 to catch their flight home at 7:30.   By 7:15 Martha and I were on the road towards Vicksburg, Mississippi.   A four hour drive.

Once we got set up (it took an extra hour and a half) because we had a mishap disconnecting the fifth wheel.   Needless to say, our tailgate is now considered our former tailgate.  Enough said.  Ouch.

Our plan now was to cross the Mississippi River into Louisiana and take the one hour drive over to the obscure, hick little town of West Monroe, the home of Duck Dynasty.

We crossed over creeks and wetlands on the Interstate.

We expected to drive up a long two lane road into the rural town of West Monroe.   We stopped at a Subway on the way for lunch as we were not sure if there would be a place to eat once we reached that hicksville city.

Well, Television does marvelous things to set the atmosphere for their shows.  It turns out the Duck Commander office and shop is a block off of the Interstate, and every restaurant, fast food, outlet store, and shopping of every kind within arms reach.  West Monroe has everything from a Walmart to a Davids Bridal.  Red Lobster to Popeye's Chicken.   It has it all.  They need only drive their Rolls for a few minutes to get whatever they wish to buy.  Funny, we expected a real back woods area.

Their gift shop was very cool.  Lots of nice stuff.

My T-Shirt of the bearded ones was purchased in San Diego at the 3 for $10 store there.  It was more awesome than the shirts they had for sale and probably unauthorized.  I'm such a rebel.

Martha drove the hour back to the trailer.   I stuffed myself with Popeye's chicken on the way back even though I had a Subway Tuna only an hour earlier.   This is the first time that Martha has driven on our trip.   It was very relaxing for me to not have to worry about traffic and add needed advice and driving tips along the way.    Not sure how my words were accepted as she is not speaking to me.

When we got back to the trailer on the banks of the river there was a hill overlooking the water and strategic spot for control of the waterway.

Big Guns.

We added two more states to the map.   Tomorrow we will check out some of Vicksburg's Battlefields and then head on to New Orleans.

We have now been through 36 states and only two more to go until we get back to Arizona.  It has been really amazing so far.  Halloween in New Orleans?  Voodoo?  Ghosts?  Witches?  We shall see as we are there until Wednesday.   Trick or Treat?  You tell me!

  1. Bummer about the mishap. 😒 That's definitely not the best way to start the day, but there are worse things; like, what if the mishap happened BEFORE the Grand Ole Opry?!? Where would we have taken all the cool tailgating pics?? Haha Duck Dynasty looks cool, but lame-o that they really make it seem like it's out in the middle of nowhere. That's the media for you~ they can make you see anything the way they want you to see it.

  2. We made it home, by the way, just in time to hit Kneaders. The kids got home from school, then Kate left for the pumpkin lighting with friends, Mathew went truck or treating with friends and D is at a costume party. I have been home alone for hours wondering what the heck I came home for!!!!
