Day 66 - Afternoon

Blue skis and 70 degrees today.   It hardly seems like a hurricane is on its way.   We drove into Sylvania today to fill up the truck and buy storm essentials, Heineken and Banana Split Ice Cream.  That should hold us a few days.   Sylvania is a 25 minute drive and 16 miles South of us.   The journey begins with a two mile trek down the dirt road that is the only way to get to the RV Park.  We move South to mid-Florida, to Lake City, on Saturday afternoon if the storm has passed by then.   I hope that the rig will be able to get to the main roadway and the dirt? mud? road won't be a mess of fallen trees for the two mile trek.

Sylvania is a neat town.  Small but loaded with Georgia Southern Charm.

Just on the outskirts of town there are a couple of very nice colonial homes, plantation variety.

Traveling up the highway, we hope to reach on Saturday, this sign adorns the dirt road and is the only marker for the  dirt 'road' where the RV Park lies.

The Park is called Leaning Pine.  We feel lucky to have found this place and that it had a spot for us.

We are hoping that Saturday none of the leaning pines are leaning on our trailer.

We added two more states to the map.   South Carolina and Georgia.

The pin drop is our location.  We are about 90 miles inland.

Last chance evacuations are recommended for anyone living within 25 miles of the Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina Coast as I write this post.   Tonight the bridges and roadways will close at 6pm.  Disney World and Universal Studios as well as schools and most of the businesses will remain closed tomorrow.  Most of the Costal gas stations have already run out of gas and are closed.  Matthew will hit the Southeastern side of Florida around 11pm and will make its way up the shoreline.   It is 4pm now and the wind here at the RV Park is picking up and some clouds moving in but we shouldn't see any part of the storm until Friday late night and into Saturday morning.  Lake City is a four hour drive from here and if travel allows we will drive down the middle of the state to arrive there on Saturday night.  I hope that will be a possibility, we will have to see.

Anyone living East of I-95 is now under a mandatory evacuation order.  All of the West moving highways  are moving one way on both sides of the road.

By Friday night this park should be a whole different place.  We will take some pics and keep our heads down.  Duck, has taken on a whole new meaning now.  Forget the coffee, I've got beer now if you want to come by.  Bring a boat.
