Day 50 - Declaration of 'Philly CheeseSteak'?

Back into Philadelphia around ten this morning.   We wanted to give the rush hour crowd a chance to clear the way.  We went to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell first.

The Declaration Of Independence was read and signed here.

The chair in the center was where George Washington sat.   The British occupied Philadelphia for some time and burnt most of the furniture, but this piece survived.

This was the room where the actual signing took place.  The flag that flew was 'Join or Die' with a snake on it divided into 13 sections.  Once the 13 colonies all came together with the signing of the Declaration, A new flag was displayed with the snake sections joined to form one snake with the caption, 'United We Stand' and later the caption changed to 'Don't Tread On Me'.

Right across is the building that houses the Liberty Bell.

We all have our heroes.

Not far from Independence Hall is the grave of Ben Franklin.

And just two blocks from Ben's gravesite, well, walking distance for me.  Sorry Ben.

Then we walked to the Race St Pier.

Just under the Ben Franklin Bridge.

At the end is terraced seating with a pretty good view of the river and bridges.  On the 4th it is a popular fireworks viewing spot and on the summer weekends, it is home to craft fairs.

As we were leaving the Duck Boat took a dive into the river.

Saw this character as we left.  A likeness of Stan Laural as well.

This street is preserved from the 1700's.   Awesome houses.

The vehicle parked at the end of the street was a guy doing repairs on one of the house fronts.

They didn't have white cars back in the 1700's, they were all black then.

Then we drove over to the South side to get a Cheesesteak from Pat's Cheesesteak.  He invented it.

Stallone was here as a plaque on the sidewalk professes.

I was doubtful that I would like it, but I have to say, it is really good.  Martha liked it too!

Again, so many super houses.

Very Patriotic too.

This one belonged to Besty Ross.  As long as she keeps sewing them, I'll keep waving them.

13 Stars

Then we joined the commute crowd out of town and back to the serenity of our little home on wheels.

We got here just as our neighborhood friends were heading in for the night.

Well, almost all of them.   This one was ready to party.

Tomorrow we are going to Atlantic City and the Boardwalk.  Come On! Sing with me!!!  "Under the Boardwalk:Up up above:Under the Boardwalk:We'll be having some fun:Under the Boardwalk:people walking above:Under the Boardwalk:We'll be......I forget the rest.......   Thanks for joining us today.  Let Freedom Ring!
