Today we had highway fun. Interstate 75 was half a mile from our park and also half a mile from the park we were heading to. A nice 70mph 438 mile stroll. I stuck at about 65 most of the time. I got up at 5:30, Martha at 6:00. We showered, had breakfast, and broke camp hoping to get an early escape. Pitch black outside the whole time but we still were able to get on the road by 7:00. The road was good and the highway traffic light with the exception of around Atlanta, which moved slowly for nearly an hour,.
The highway was 3 lanes most of the way.
Still foggy we crossed over into Georgia. It cleared up around 10am.
This patrol car passed us and rode ahead for a bit, then pulled over to do some radar work I suppose. The cool part was what he had written on his lower tailgate.
Purchased with confiscated drug money.
I wondered why it wasn't an Escalade.
In California freeway billboards are not allowed. We have the pleasure of hunting for cell towers that are disguised as Palm Trees or Pine Trees, known as California Cellular Pines. Luckily California only blights its landscape with energy progressive huge windmills by the hundreds. Most of which are turned off as they are only allowed to produce just so much and no more. Georgia highways are much more interesting with all of the billboards giving up valuable information as well as something to look at and keep your mind occupied along the way.
They are all loaded with valuable information, especially when 10:30am arrives, That is coffee time for me.
This sign cracked me up. I can just hear the state traffic control room commander saying, "Is the new computer roadside sign guy here yet?" "Yes Sir. " ""Well tell him to put up message 3 on the highway road information signs." "Will do Chief." "Hey Jones, put message 3 up on the highway road signs pronto!"
Like I said, no Palm Tree towers in Georgia, just informative roadsigns.
This "Plantation" is actually a gas station/gift shop. There are several along the route.
We arrived at the park after four stops, one coffee, one fuel, two snacks, and nine hours.
They have a nice Veteran Memorial set up at their entrance.
The internet is good here so we can surf it to check out things to do tomorrow. No plans yet for Friday, on Saturday morning we will drive four hours to Pigeon Forge.
Thanks for joining us on our roadsigns highway fun day, and if you want to go to Dollywood with us on Sunday, just give me a sign.
