Day 75 - Key West

We bid farewell to Skip and Marilyn around noon yesterday and if you checked yesterday's entry,  you can guess how fun it was during our lengthy travel South.

This morning we got off to a good start.  23 miles from our trailer in Key Largo.

Starbucks inhaled and yesterday's travels a thing of the past.

It is actually about two hours drive from Key Largo to Key West.   All narrow strips of land and bridges.   It is unbelievable what a long stretch that it is and how beautiful it is.

After we finished taking the above photos while on the trail back to the car we were nearly attacked by this man eating gator.  He crossed the path just after we passed by.  Perhaps lying in wait for us and his timing was poor.

Actually a nice lizard.  Bridge after bridge.

We arrived in Key West hungry, around two.

Duval Street is a tourist mecca and lined with every shop, restaurant, and bar you can imagine.  We found Margaritavile for lunch.

A Bahama Mamma.....

And as we had experienced once prior in Las Vegas, their Volcano Nachos.

Then over to Fort Zachery Taylor.  It was a stronghold in the Spanish-American War.   During the Civil War the Union held onto it.

Biggest Cannon Balls I have ever seen.  I don't know how they could have even loaded them up.

As with most Forts, it was surrounded by a moat.

Then back we went to Duval Street to the far end for a picture.

You can't go to the Keys without getting this shot.  We waited about ten minutes in line for our turn.

5pm it was time to head back home.  The sign reads Seven Mile Bridge.

The Full Moon rising to guide us back to the trailer.   We got home about 8pm.

Tomorrow we are heading to Fort Lauderdale.  We hope that you get a chance to view that moon tonight.  Very beautiful.  Thanks for keeping up with us.

  3. we had the bike with us & it was a blast riding around the Keys...also, was a lot easier to park when going into Key West...remember it cost me $1,200 bucks to get Blondie a horseshoe diamond necklace downtown...& fav h2o-hole was an outdoor bar called "Hogs Breathe Saloon"...& Clint Eastwood didn't own it...we are looking forward to going back as only got to log 10 days...:-)
