An hour away from out RV Camp sits Atlantic City. We took the long way through the countryside and small towns and got to Atlantic City in an hour and a half.
We found ourselves trailing behind a Student Driver for a while. It reminded me of my days as a driving instructor. I never taught bus driving though.
I was glad that they turned as there was no way I was going to pass them on either the left or right.
The small towns are cool and always have neat stuff to see. (I used the word neat. For my peers no explanation is necessary. For anyone who may have stumbled onto this old foggy site, neat means righteous)
It was 78 degrees out. Overcast with a light sea breeze. Very nice actually. And nice to get a break from the humidity we have been experiencing inland.
We were going to have the Nachos at Margaritaville for lunch. We've had them in Vegas and they are fabulous. It was only 12:30 and that was a little early for us so we elected to wait until later to eat. As it turned out, we had Chipotle Salads in May's Landing on the way home.
The Boardwalk itself was pretty void of people, as was the entire area. It is off season for Atlantic City and it is a Wednesday. It was, however, easy to tell that the town was suffering. There were Casinos with 30 stories of hotel rooms that were boarded up, buildings everywhere that were empty. The parking garage at the pier is seven stories high and must have room for 1,000 cars and it is standing empty with a chain link fence across the entrance. The whole city is going through some rough times. Although Trump's Taj Mahal Casino and Hotel is open, it is easy to see why he declared bankruptcy. The entire city is filled with closed businesses, boarded buildings, and empty Casinos. And as a side note, the Casino Worker's Union is picketing the Atlantic City Casinos for better wages and although they are upset with all the Casinos, they are only present at the Taj Mahal.
Luckily, not everything is out of business.
I had to dip my feet into the Atlantic. It was actually pretty warm.
We sat on the beach for a while.
There were several churches in town, they were in beautiful shape.
We checked out an historic lighthouse.
On our way home we stopped at our new favorite stop. Wawa is a service station and food store combination. Good Apple Fritters, great ready made Salads, and all the 7/11 variety Treats. There are a ton of these everywhere and yesterday we stopped at our first one, today we hit one again. It may become a daily stop.
Today is my sister Anne's Birthday. There were seven of us in the family counting Mom and Dad. Now it is only Anne and myself. Anne is pictured here on the extreme left, then my little brother Ricky, my sister Sharon, Me, and then finally my older brother Lee. If you don't get along with your family members, time to make up. One day they won't be here. Luckily our family always got along but one thing I regret, when we got older we could have spent more time together than we did. We get so busy with our lives, raising kids, making ends meet, then all of a sudden,,,,,,,,,,,,
