Day 38 - 'Fail' Colors

I saw this whale of a shirt and sprung for it.  $19.   That's six shirts in San Diego but oh well.

We headed out to the point, Walker Point to check out the Bush Compound.  Bush Sr. spent much of his childhood here and he brought his family here most summers when they were growing up.  As President, he came here 11 times.  By helicopter I would imagine.  It is really beautiful surroundings but this mornings coastal fog sort of hid the view.

The driveway was complete with a manned gate house and a STOP sign, Authorized Vehicles Only.   I couldn't imagine that I was authorized so we passed on the attempt.  I can imagine where they send Secret Service Agents that prove not to be up to standard for important missions.......  Agent Jones, you have really proven your value to the agency and we have a special assignment for you.   Go and sit in the guard house at the Bush Estate in Kennebunkport, Maine.   No, you most likely will not need that pistol or walkie.  We will let you know when your retirement comes up.

Continuing on our state filling mission, we crossed over into New Hampshire without incident.

We started to see some covered bridges.  In a couple of weeks we will be in Pennsylvania Amish country.  I expect we'll see more of them in that area.

We saw lots of moose crossing signs but no moose.  My guess is that they are not reading the signs.

Saw this cool tower and thought about staking out a spot to moose watch, but it wasn't near a crossing.

The churches are the most wonderful buildings.  Every small town has two or three steeples towering into the skyline.  And just beautiful inside.

No tower but we did manage to locate a Starbucks.

Into Vermont.   We took the Northern most route we could headed for Burlington.   We crossed over the White Mountains in hope of some fall colors.  We were told that normally there would be a burst of color by now, but because it was a drought year, it delays the chemical change in the leaves, and this year there would be very little color, with most of the trees dropping their leaves while still green.  It amazes me that they can say that they are in a drought year.  Every corner we turn has a stream or lake and it is so lush and green everywhere but that is the statement.   Drought year.

Near the summit of the White Mountains we saw this burst of color, from two trees.  Hummmm.   It must be so fantastic in a good fall color year.  We will be back for sure.  On a positive note, we will be in Tennessee in late October and should see some color there.

Since we didn't get color, we drowned our sorrow at the Ben & Jerry Ice Cream Factory.  We went on the tour which ended with a sample of a new flavor, Cookies and Milk.

We also got to see their new pint lid.

Martha's cone only appears empty because it is filled with chocolate.  Well, that only lasted a short time, and then it was empty.

We headed South without going all the way to Burlington since there wasn't any real colors to see.  We are in Manchester, New Hampshire, for the night.   Tomorrow we will go to Providence, Rhode Island, and then back to the trailer.  Friday morning we head to Connecticut with trailer in tow.  I hope that you find these entries entertaining, we just passed 3,000 views.  Thanks for checking in!
